Marswell: Only by keeping on the road can you go far!

A review of historical literature reveals that the earliest recorded mention of popcorn snacks in China dates back to the Song Dynasty. The renowned statesman and literary figure of the Southern Song, Fan Chengda, noted in his work “Records of Wu Prefecture: Customs” that “glutinous rice is popped in a cauldron, known as ‘bolou’ or ‘rice flowers.’ Each person pops their own to divine the year’s fortune—good or ill.” Thus, the culture of popcorn has a long history and enjoys widespread appeal; mention of popcorn instantly evokes a sense of familiarity among people of all ages.
These days, it’s effortless to grab a serving of popcorn—caramel, chocolate, creamy, fruity—during a movie or a dinner party. The sheer variety is dazzling! Yet who would have imagined that just over two decades ago, before the popcorn industry in China had achieved large-scale, mechanized production, the market was dominated by street vendors? That familiar “pop” sound evoked childhood memories for so many—and whether you could even get your hands on some often depended on sheer luck!

Marswell, a leading popcorn company in China, has grown from a small workshop into a large enterprise through a challenging journey. Its founding was serendipitous: Gao Marswell, who had ventured into business, tasted a box of ready-to-eat popcorn brought back from the United States by a friend, which sparked his entrepreneurial journey!
Acting on impulse, Gao Marswell immediately set up shop in a 200-square-meter temporary factory in Wunan Village No. 1, not far from Wuchang Railway Station, after spotting a business opportunity. And thus, Marswell popcorn was born! Of course, the beginning is always the hardest; Gao Marswell and his partners went through quite a bit of trouble before finally finding suitable popcorn kernels in Northeast China. Within just one month, their popcorn received an enthusiastic market response, with demand outstripping supply—so much so that it even made its way into movie theaters and became a huge hit!

In the new millennium, Marswell made an important decision: to shift from its original ready-to-eat popcorn products to the microwave corn market. After three years of collaboration with five research institutions, it finally developed a dedicated paper bag, breaking the technological monopoly and enabling the successful launch of microwave corn products, thereby elevating Marswell to a new level.
Last year, the first intelligent popcorn production line in China, developed and manufactured by JiLi Food, was put into operation, pioneering unmanned production in the domestic industry and marking the end of the traditional manual and non-standardized era of popcorn production. In May this year, Marswell also signed a strategic cooperation agreement with Midea Group, becoming Midea’s microwave corn manufacturer; collaborated with Amway to develop high-fiber, low-sugar, and healthier light-meal popcorn; and reached cooperation agreements with the China Science and Technology Museum and the Military Museum of the Chinese People’s Revolution, leveraging traffic IPs to expand sales of customized products.
In the future, Marswell will continue to forge ahead with strong development, seize opportunities to make breakthroughs, and constantly promote the company’s steady and sustainable, high-quality development!
